Māris Bērziņš’s novel about the writer Vili Lācis “The Blacksmith of the Future” has been published / Article

The work of the series “I am -” – Māris Bērziņš’s novel “Blacksmith of the Future” – has been published – about Latvian writer, author of many novels, stories and plays, Chairman of the Latvian SSR People’s Commissars Council, Latvian SSR Council of Ministers, 1904–1966), the representatives of the publishing house “Dienas grāmata” informed.

Soviet literature signboard and political puppet Vilis Lācis wrote in a diary. And he is seeking writing therapy, which he does not really believe in, hoping that his heart and conscience will be easier if physical ailments and unstoppable alcohol degradation cannot be averted. It seems that Māris Bērziņš has redirected this therapy to the Latvian people. It is rich in literature, in which Lācis deftly copes with smooth plots, effective heroes, simple language and appropriate, easily changeable political accents, neither Lācis himself nor we have had enough to understand anything about himself. This is another genre, it signifies limitation and depression in pedantic details.

Bērziņš looks at where a person has fallen and sinks into a swamp, from which he will never get out again, “the book has been evaluated by writer Inese Zandere.

Māris Bērziņš (1962) has given five novels, several collections of stories and plays to the readers for twenty years of active writing. The writer’s performance has been awarded the Latvian Literature of the Year Award in Drama (2009) and Prose (2015), the Baltic Assembly Award in Literature and the Amber Sodum Award for Innovation in Literature.

The artist of the book is Jānis Esītis.

In 2018, the publishing house “Dienas raamat” started work on a new major project of Latvian literature “I am …”. A total of 26 new works are planned in the new series: 13 novels and 13 monographs on the classics of Latvian literature.
