Hamburg – The verdict has been spoken, yes Mario Vuskovic can’t accept that. The now unemployed central defender is appealing to the Federal Court in Switzerland. “BILD” and “Abendblatt” report on this. The Croatian was finally banned for four years by the International Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne in August of this year, and the judge’s ruling subsequently added 24 months. The 22-year-old is not expected to play again until the end of 2026 and already has a contract with Hamburger SV signed for this because the previous one had to be dissolved.
Vuskovic maintains his innocence
As both newspapers report, the appeal can only be reviewed for procedural errors by CAS. Judges and witnesses could be questioned. Vuskovic maintains his innocence even after the four-year ban. He had to prove it once in Lausanne, but the judges didn’t believe him. Even two lie detector tests weren’t enough. The CAS considered the positive sample for the banned substance erythropoietin (Epo) to be proven. The chances of success before the Federal Court are very low – in the single-digit percentage range. Nevertheless, the Croatian wants to make one last attempt.

Croatian scored in his last home game for the time being
Vuskovic last stood on the pitch at the Volksparkstadion on November 6, 2022. HSV won 3-1 against Jahn Regensburg (HL-SPORTS reported). The central defender equalized in the 12th minute with a hammer from over 20 meters into the left corner. He played 47 times for the Rothosen, scored a total of three times and provided two assists. The 48-time junior international from Croatia wore Hamburg’s jersey again three days later in the 1-0 defeat in Fürth. Then the control and the subsequent hammer. In a month, half of the ban would be over if something else didn’t happen.
Match practice in private league?
Two weeks ago there was a rumor that the central defender was playing in the “Baller League“or the “Icon League” could collect. These two private leagues are not run by associations. Lukas Podolski and Mats Hummels as well as Toni Kroos and one of the largest and best-known Twitch streamers in Germany, Elias Nehrlich – better known as Eligella or EliasN97, founded these TV leagues. HSV coach Steffen Baumgart doesn’t seem averse to “seeing his boy there”. However, there is currently little further information about a possible “comeback” on the ball from Vuskovic there. According to “BILD”, however, Kroos and his partner are said to have no interest in this “new addition”.
