Mario Park is immediately ready for opening – see what Super Nintendo World will be like

Universal Studios Japan says they are only a few months away from opening the Super Nintendo World section of their Osaka theme park. The plan now is to let visitors in from February 4, 2021.

The park and Nintendo have released a bunch of pictures of what visitors can expect, which includes one Mario Kart-themed roller coaster where the audience will wear AR glasses. Visitors should also have a bracelet that tracks what activities they do, and gives them digital coins as they complete attractions.

You can see a promo video at the top of the article, and a photo carousel showing parts of the experience below.

Initially, the plan was to open the Nintendo part of the park this summer, but like everything else, the opening was postponed due to the corona pandemic. The newspaper Bloomberg – who has visited the park – also points out that Osaka is currently one of Japan’s most infectious cities, and wonders if it can ensure that the opening is postponed again.

The park area itself should not be very large, and not everything is completely finished yet. At least we can see a lot of Super Mario references in the screenshots and the promo video, with gold coins, green drain pipes and a swarm of Yoshi dinosaurs on the horizon.

Although Mario Fun is being reserved for Osaka right now, Universal plans to expand similar attractions in the Universal Studios Parks of Los Angeles and Orlando. It will probably still take some time before these are finished.
