Mario Mandzukic Hangs Up Shoes

Zagreb

Finished career Mario Mandzukic on the green field. The Croatian striker decided to hang up his boots at the age of 35.

Mandzukic spent last season together AC Milan for six months. He was unemployed in the first half of the 2020/2021 season after his contract was terminated by Qatari club Al-Duhail.

Unfortunately, Mandzukic’s career with Milan was not smooth because he was more often on the bench or the treatment room. He appeared 11 times without scoring a goal.

When the summer transfer window ended, Mandzukic apparently never got a new club. As a result, Mandzukic decided to retire from the world that made his name, Friday (3/9/2021) night WIB.

Mandzukic made an upload on his instagram account containing a letter addressed to him as a child.

“To Little Mario. When you first put on these football boots, you probably never thought what you would feel in football. You would score goals in big tournaments and you would win prestigious trophies with big clubs. Proud defending your country, you helped write history in Croatian sport,” said Mandzukic.

“You can be successful because you have great people around you – teammates, coaches, fans, family, agents and friends who are always there for you. You will be grateful to have them all.”

Mandzukic started his professional career in 2004 with Croatian club Marsonia. He moved to NK Zagreb a year later and went on to play for big club Dinamo Zagreb from 2007 to 2010.

Mandzukic’s name became known when he played in the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg in 2010. Two years there, Mandzukic caught the attention of Bayern Munich who then recruited him.

The peak of his career is arguably at this club because he was part of a club that won six titles in a year in 2013. He had one season at Atletico Madrid in 2014/2015.

Mario Mandzukic his longest playing time at Juventus was from 2015 to 2019 with 44 goals from 162 matches, before moving to Al Duhail in that year.

Mandzukic won four Scudetto titles with Juventus and scored in the 2016/2017 Champions League final, despite losing 4-1 to Real Madrid.

At the national team level, Mandzukic played a major role in delivering his country to the runner-up of the 2018 World Cup. Mandzukic has a total of 89 caps and 33 goals.
