Mario & Luigi: Brotherhood Complete Guide – Where to find every Grampy Carrot

Anyone who started your journey in Concordia in Mario & Luigi: Brotherhood this RPG is probably much bigger and more iconic than many other games featuring Nintendo’s most iconic mascots are much more complex. While there are plenty of islands to discover along the way, lots of loot to find, bosses to defeat, and familiar faces to find, there are also a number of collectibles to choose from. One of these is the secretive and sneaky Grampy turnips, which is pretty much what the name suggests; Turnips are Grandpas, and 18 are worth finding throughout Concordia. So, to make sure you don’t miss anything, we’ve created this handy guide.

Isle of Shipt

The first Grampy Turnip we want to bring to your attention is not exactly the first, but it is special, so we pop it here. It is located on Shipshape Island, the center of which is Brotherhood. To find it you need to unlock the UFO Spin gliding move, but if you already have this you can go to the back of the island to where you will reach after connecting to the new island, then continue up and jump up some ledges to find yourself in a chase. Use the UFO Spin to clear the gap, and later you’ll find a Grampy Turnip on the ground.

Notice: This Grampy Turnip is special because it tells you how many more turnips you have left to see and even marks islands where you can find ones you might have missed. It also awards rewards based on the number of Grampy Turnips you find, with milestones and rewards listed below.

  • 3 Grampy Carrots – Super Candy
  • 5 turnips – 2 heart beans
  • 9 radishes Grampelt – Stache Bean DX
  • 18 turnips – TB

The first real Grampy Turnip is located on Raynforst Island. About halfway through your first exploration of the island, make sure to turn left when you meet the vendor in front of a row of common radishes. Climb to the top of the nearby hill and Grampy Turnip will be waiting to be found.

Twistee Island

The next one is on Twistee Island. You have to complete the island, attach it to the Shipshape, and then go back and find this Grampy Turnip, but if you do, it’s a walk in the park. When you get back to the island, take the first left past the now open leaflet and on the way up you’ll find the next Grampy Turnip.

Desert 島

The next one is on Desolatt Island. At the top of the island, in front of a door that leads into the basement, you’ll find four buried turnips, the one on the far left being the Grampy Turnip.

Grampy Turnip is on this island, but you need to level up to reach it. So, don’t worry and just keep following the main narrative until you find Slippenglide Island and get the Bros. upgrade. Ball’s Ball Blitz. When you’re done, use the pipe to return to Allsand and the center of the island. Back up the landing area a bit until you find a ramp against a straight wall, then continue up the ramp to Ball Blitz into the upper area where the Grampy Turnip is.

When you get to the island, continue through his story as usual until you finally get the extra key. When you’re done, go underground and open the first locked door in front of you. The Grampy Turnip will be in the middle of this room.

Once you reach Slippenglide Island, proceed as usual until you find the secret research base and discover the narrative arc that takes place around that part of the island. Once the story has progressed far enough that you now need to reconnect with the Lighthouse, look to the right of the secret base to find some rocks that you can climb and then drop down to the ledge where the Grampy Turnip is waiting.

You have to complete about half of the island to reach this Grampy Turnip. After completing the sliding door puzzle, continue along the linear path until you find a bunch of radishes planted in the ground. Grampy Turnip is the top right corner of this row of radishes.

Thrush Island

This one is at the top of the hill just before you enter the concert hall. It’s worth avoiding it now and instead go to the left side of the island and first get the tickets needed to enter the hall, all to prevent unnecessary backups. As soon as you buy your ticket, however, head up the hill until you find various vendors standing in front of a patch of radish. Grampy Turnip will be the lower left corner of several radishes.

The nine remaining Grampy turnips are actually waiting for you before the credits roll, on the last island in all Mario & Luigi: Brotherhood, the dreaded Soli-Tree. This island is not unlocked until the end; so don’t try to find it when you install the powerful Shipshape update, which allows you to jump into unconnected streams (which will reveal a few more islands). When is the last fort, finally coming? We’re talking about it even after they defeat Zokket in his fortress, when they reveal themselves as you make your way to the final boss, Reclusa. In the last place, the other half of Grampy Turnips is waiting for you.

Once you get all the keys to the watering can, you’ll have the power you need to break through the roots of your Soli-Tree. You can then let yourself into this dungeon and start solving its difficult rooms one by one, sending balls of fire and ice in the corridor. Grampy Turnips will be waiting for you in the upper left room (think 10 o’clock on a 12-hour clock), which you can enter after placing two orbs . The lifeguards and balancing puzzles will remind you of those on the island of Rumbla, and on the far left you will see – as a hint, four normal turnips growing on the floor – a path that leads to a secret place. There, you will find eight turnips, and the last one will be waiting for you when you finish the room, going north, up the ramp to Bros. Ball. Since the first 1 of the 8 is yellow, it gives you the final reward without returning to Shipshape Island.
