Mariners put Toro on injured reserve

BOSTON — The Seattle Mariners have placed Quebec infielder Abraham Toro on the 15-day injured list with a sprained left shoulder, in addition to designating outfielder Steven Souza Jr. assignment.

Toro was injured in a Mariners loss to the Boston Red Sox on Saturday. He collided with right fielder Adam Frazier trying to catch a weak fly ball in the first inning.

In 38 games this season, Toro is batting .179 with six home runs and 13 RBIs.

For his part, Souza appeared in only six meetings with the Mariners and hit three hits in 19 at bats.

To replace them in their roster, the Mariners recalled AAA outfielder Taylor Trammell and all-rounder Sam Hafferty.

Before facing the Red Sox on Sunday, the Mariners had lost 18 of their last 24 games.
