While Jean-Marie Le Pen was deemed unfit to appear during the trial of the parliamentary assistants of the National Rally which opened this Monday, September 30, Mediapart broadcast an embarrassing video of the party’s founder.
In the images which would have been filmed on Saturday September 28, according to the investigative site, Jean-Marie Le Pen sings, in his villa in Rueil-Malmaison, in the company of Match Retour, a rock group close to the neo-Nazi sphere.
Marine Le Pen confirmed to RTL that she would file a complaint against the musicians for “abuse of weakness”and against the people who allowed the group to return to his father’s home. She stated that she was “shocked” and raised the issue of “consent”. The former far-right MEP would indeed be too weakened for his choices to be informed.
The video shows Jean-Marie Le Pen, all smiles, listening to the rockers sing a song in his honor. In the lyrics, they particularly refer to to homophobic remarks held by the former president of the National Front in 1997.
Would the 96-year-old politician then have been fit to appear at trial? The Paris courthouse confirmed the validity of his absence for medical reasons.
