Marine Le Pen and Emmanuel Macron continue their face-to-face from a distance

For the CGT, “not a voice” should go to the far right

“Not a voice from the world of work for the far right, it must be fought everywhere”says the General Confederation of Labor (CGT) in a press release this afternoon, twelve days before an uncertain second round between the two candidates who remained in the running for the second round of the presidential election, Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen. “The situation is serious in France; the far right is at the gates of the Elysée”notes in this text the second French union.

Stressing that the far right has accumulated in the first round “more than 32% of the votes”by adding the scores of Marine Le Pen, Eric Zemmour and Nicolas Dupont-Aignan, the confederation “reaffirms that these parties and their program go against the interests of the world of work”.

“During history as today in many countries, the leaders claiming this ideology, like [Vladimir] Putin, [Jair] Bolsonaro, [Viktor] Orban, suppress trade union and democratic freedoms, break social guarantees, divide workers, break solidarity”she accuses.

“History shows it, there is a difference in nature between the republican parties which gain power and give it up and the extreme right which, once in power, confiscates it”continues the confederation.

However, the CGT does not explicitly call for a vote for the outgoing president. This position is similar to that of La France insoumise, the party of Jean-Luc Mélenchon. The French Communist Party, historically close to the CGT, on the other hand called to beat Mme Le Pen with the Macron bulletin.

Sunday April 10, the first French union, the CFDT, had called to beat the RN “by voting for Emmanuel Macron”. “More than ever: not a voice for the far right”had for its part affirmed the Solidaires union.

France’s third-largest union, Force Ouvrière, issued a statement on Monday explaining that “trade union independence” led him to “do not give voting instructions”.
