Marine killed in training in Norway | Inland

A Dutch marine died in Norway on Saturday afternoon. It is unclear what exactly happened. The Marechaussee has started an investigation.

Defense confirms that it is a soldier of the Marine Corps. Norway is a popular practice area for this unit in the winter months. They train here to survive and fight in arctic conditions. The Marechaussee cannot yet say anything about the cause of death of the soldier. Nor whether that possibly had anything to do with the extreme exercises that are now being held.

There are currently 600 soldiers of the Marine Corps in Norway. They were scheduled to participate in the Joint Viking international exercise two weeks ago, but it was halted after a corona outbreak among the military. About 25 Americans and 53 British were infected. 4 Dutch soldiers also received corona.

After several tests, everyone is now corona free. They stay in their own bubble until the beginning of March in Norway.
