In response to a question about the amendment expected to be tabled by the PaSoK to stop funding to the “SPARTATES” party, the government representative Pavlos Marinakis commented that the PaSoK has confused them, because yesterday Mr. Doudonis called on the government to deal with the issue with the existing legislation and today the president of the party Nikos Androulakis announces an amendment, asking for the legislation to be changed.
The position of Pavlos Marinakis:
“Now, regarding your question regarding PaSoK, I also saw today’s pre-announcement of an amendment by Mr. Androulakis and wondered why just yesterday PaSoK MP, Mr. Doudonis, asked, in the Parliament, the Government to proceed with what is provided for by the legislation, so that by a decision of the Parliament any kind of funding and financial support to the SPARTIATES is suspended. So, from the current legislation. Today, Mr. Androulakis is asking for the legislation to be changed.
We are a bit confused by PaSoK. After the re-election of Mr. Androulakis, he may need a year of adjustment. Should the current legislation be implemented as Mr. Doudonis said yesterday or should the legislation be changed, as Mr. Androulakis is saying today?
However, it is a very serious matter. We will wait for the text of the proposed amendment from the PASOK, to discuss it, without rejecting anything in advance. And, of course, it is a good opportunity to remember – and this will be done as soon as the amendment is tabled in Parliament – the stance taken by the New Democracy Government, not in words, with a series of amendments – which fortunately were voted in favor, some did not had voted in favor – which enabled the Judiciary to make decisions that protected our Republic from criminal organizations. This is, I think, something that History has recorded.
So what our intentions are overall on this matter is not in doubt, because our credibility has been tested by a series of actions. So, we have to see this text as well, so that this discussion can take place, as a whole, in the Parliament.”
