Mexico City. The Secretariat of the Mexican Navy (Semar) activated the Marine Plan in its prevention phase in the states of Chiapas, Quintana Roo, Tabasco and Yucatán due to the presence of tropical storm Nadine, given the forecasts of heavy rains in the next 24 hours.
The nearby Naval Commands in what has been considered to be the impact zone, deployed their troops “in order to have the human and material resources prepared that will provide support in the event of possible effects due to the presence of said meteorological phenomenon.”
In this context, the forecasts of the National Meteorological Service estimate that damage could occur in the states of Chiapas, Oaxaca, Quintana Roo and Tabasco, due to heavy showers and strong storms, as well as rainfall with an accumulated amount of 150 to 200 millimeters, in the next 24 hours.
Therefore, the Sixteenth Naval Region based in Puerto Chiapas, Chiapas, has a Mobile Support Brigade (BAM), with 53 naval elements.
The Fifteenth Naval Zone based in Cozumel, Quintana Roo, has 243 elements belonging to this institution, as well as 11 vehicles, an Interceptor patrol, two Defender-type boats, two smaller boats and a mobile kitchen.
The Seventeenth Naval Zone based in Chetumal, Quintana Roo, has 398 naval elements, 10 vehicles, two boats, and a mobile kitchen.
The Ninth Naval Zone based in Frontera, Tabasco, has 310 naval elements, as well as 11 vehicles, among which are pick-up vehicles, a thermo King (which has a temperature control system for the transfer of products perishables), a collector, among others, as well as eight smaller boats.
The Thirteenth Naval Zone based in Yukalpetén, Yucatán, has a BAM with 53 elements of the Institution, 11 vehicles, among which are pick-up vehicles, command vehicles, a water pipe, among others, as well as a kitchen mobile with water treatment plant.
Likewise, these Naval Commands are carrying out tours, in order to inspect the areas of their jurisdiction, and to be able to provide timely support to the population that requires it.
Semar carries out “monitoring of weather reports and alert emissions, with the purpose that naval personnel act in a timely manner to support the population if necessary, and have established coordination actions with Civil Protection authorities, state and municipal agencies, highlighting that the Port Captaincies of said regions will issue the corresponding notices to the maritime community that is sailing, to take the necessary preventive measures for their safety.”
