The Austrian fashion designer Marina Hoermanseder makes fashion in the look of orthopedic leather corsets and stars like Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift or Kylie Jenner love them for it. On Thursday (8:15 pm, ProSieben) she will equip the “Germany’s next top model” candidates for the second time after 2019 for the decision walk. This time she sits next to Heidi Klum (47) on the jury. The special thing about it: At the time of filming, Hoermanseder’s daughter was just a week old. The Berliner by choice gave birth to her first child at the beginning of November.
“I was so happy to be there that the adrenaline got totally out of hand and I didn’t even notice the exhaustion,” explains Hoermanseder in an interview with the news agency spot on news and looks back on the filming with Heidi Klum.

You are back at “GNTM”, this time as a guest juror. How did you like this role?
Marina Hoermanseder: I really liked this role – when I was there backstage with my collection two years ago, I had a lot of fun. Sitting next to Heidi on the jury is exactly the development for me and my label that I have always wanted.
Heidi Klum always wears your fashion, just like Lady Gaga or Kylie Jenner. Does that make you proud?
Hoermanseder: It makes me incredibly proud when I see big stars wearing my fashion. I have to say, I don’t get used to it either, it is an absolutely exciting feeling and highlight every time. At the same time, the feeling is indescribable when I see a stranger on the street who is wearing something of mine because they bought it in the online shop.
How have you experienced Heidi Klum so far?
Hoermanseder: I have always admired Heidi for everything she does and that everything seems to go so naturally to her. When we met in Los Angeles, I was able to see what a professional she is. Heidi knows exactly what she is saying, how to present herself and always looks phenomenal. She is a great role model for me and I want to learn a lot from her.
As a designer, how do you choose your models for a show? What is particularly important to you?
Hoermanseder: The most important thing is a confident and cool look. And a cool walk … you have to practice that until you vomit if you don’t just have it in your blood.
What is your impression of the current “GNTM” candidates?
Hoermanseder: I was thrilled, to be honest. I showed our Snake Vase on the catwalk – that was absolute supreme discipline. To see this look run so perfectly on “GNTM”, even I didn’t expect that. In addition, the girls were all super warm and polite to me, that’s something I always enjoy.
Heidi’s daughter Leni has also started her modeling career. Do you think she is creating a world career similar to that of her mother?
Hoermanseder: Leni already had a look from us – she has the great genes of mom – so she has the best prerequisites. I wish her the very best and I am sure she will go her own way.
Would you hire Leni for one of your shows?
Hoermanseder: Of course – if I can still afford it …
You have recently become a mother yourself. The show was shot a week after your daughter was born in November. How exhausting was that for you?
Hoermanseder: I was so happy to be there that the adrenaline totally got out of hand and I didn’t even notice the exhaustion. In retrospect, I was certainly in a kind of trance. When I got home after a 13-hour day of filming, I was so exhausted and had to rest for three days.
Did you even take a longer break after giving birth?
Hoermanseder: Well, I had a week to rest. It actually went on in rapid succession and that is a good thing. It’s also good that working from home is so popular, so I do a lot from home. The engines keep running with us and that’s why I accelerate. I don’t like breaks that much, standing still is not my friend.
The Corona year hit the fashion industry hard, what plans do you have for your label this year?
Hoermanseder: First we all have to move out of the risk zone before we make big plans. Nevertheless, we are planning our strategy – we will focus even more on the USA this year. We can also finally announce some projects that we have been working on for a long time. That will give a good storytelling buzz … all of that and more collections and hopefully a show too.
Will we see you more often on TV after “GNTM”?
Hoermanseder: We are working on that, I definitely wish to be more on TV again – I have so much fun!
