Marina Garbesi Award: Luigi Manconi and Leonardo Ottoni are the winners of the second edition

Luigi Manconi for the Journalism section, Leonardo Ottoni for the Graphic novel section they are the winners of the second edition of the Marina Garbesi Award, established with the support of the Municipality of Imola by Ludovico Belloa young autistic man, son of the Repubblica journalist who passed away on 4 April 2021, to promote correct and effective information on the condition of the most fragile.

Presentation of prizes

The awards will be presented on April 12th from 5pm at the “Ebe Stignani” municipal theater in Imola (via Verdi 1). The initiative is free to enter. Recognition a Luigi Manconi is motivated by his constant commitment to defending human rights. A commitment that over the years has unfolded on all fronts, social, legislative, cultural and communication. Defending fundamental rights also means knowing how to describe them. Leonardo Ottoni, a 25 year old autistic boy from Imola, tells this story through art. He is capable – as the motivation states – of “making the colors speak”. In his works – which have already received important recognition – he translates the words into a universal language. These are not graphic novel works in the classic sense, but they are stories, tales which – rather than developing in a sequence of tables – tell in an instant a fairy tale, a character, a moment in life.

The jury

The jury is made up of Marco Panieri (mayor of Imola), Concita De Gregorio (columnist for La Repubblica), Carlo Lucarelli (writer), Igort (Igor Tuveri, director of Linus), Maria Novella De Luca (sent by Republic), Giovanni Rossi (Fnsi), Gabrio Salieri (Anpi of Imola), Walter Galavotti (Regional Union of Mental Health Associations), Chiara Sorbello (Business and professions association), Lara Alpi (editor of the weekly Saturday evening), Alfredo Antonaros (representing Ludovico Bellu).
