Marin Native Blends Humor and AI in Unique Talk Show
Redwood City, CA – Tia Creighton, a fourth-generation Marin native, is doing something truly unique: interviewing AI chatbots on her online talk show, "Turing with Tia." But this isn’t your typical tech demonstration.
Creighton injects humor and societal commentary into each episode, leveraging the unpredictable nature of AI to create unexpected and often hilarious conversations.
"I’ve always been drawn to satire and humor," Creighton shares. "Making fun of society is kind of my wheelhouse."
Her guests range from the fantastical (a witch, for instance) to the everyday (a skinfluencer or plumber). Each episode, Creighton crafts a unique persona for the AI to inhabit, allowing for playful exploration of pressing social issues and topical themes within a comedic framework.
"I don’t pre-interview the AI," Creighton explains, highlighting the improvisational nature of the show. "And I try to pick ‘characters’ that we can’t really interview in real life because if I could, I would just interview that person.
This approach allows for authentic, in-the-moment reactions and unexpected twists, blurring the lines between reality and AI-generated conversation. While Creighton acknowledges the potential pitfalls of this technology, she’s determined to make it more approachable for the average person.
“I’m less fearful of it than most people I talk to," she says. "I think a lot of people are afraid of it, and they don’t want anything to do with it. I feel like I’m helping make it a little bit more approachable for the average person.”
Creighton’s unique show draws inspiration from her diverse background – from her upbringing in Marin, where she says her imagination flourished, to her dedication to education and her fascination with the intersection of communication, technology, and culture.
The Marin influence is evident in Creighton’s playful spirit and commitment to exploring the world’s complexities through a comedic lens.
“I’ve been a writer since I was a little kid," she reflects. “Marin created space for me to run wild and use my imagination."
Turing with Tia is more than just entertainment. It’s a commentary on the evolving role of technology in our lives, presented with wit and warmth.
"We’re taking a ‘tour’ through my head," Creighton says, drawing a parallel between the show and the Turing Test, a thought experiment designed to assess a machine’s ability to exhibit human intelligence. "And then each episode is a little Turing Test.
