At the next Golden Radio Ring presentation, no distinction will be made between the best male and female presenter, but not everyone is in favor of this. Qmusic DJ Marieke Elsinga, among others, worries that women will be nominated far fewer accordingly.
Previously, both a Silver Radio Star for Best Male and a Silver Radio Star for Best Female Host were awarded during the RadioGala. In the next edition there will be only one prize: the prize for the best presenter.
Elsinga, who herself is a three-time Silver Radio Star Woman winner for best female DJ, dubbed in on Friday Avenue RTL his concerns about the changing regulations of the Gouden RadioRing.
“The world of radio is definitely a man’s world,” says Elsinga. “With this award combined, it’s much harder for women to be nominated. There may not be any women nominated because there are so many men in the radio business.”
Elsinga thinks it’s important that people see women win as well. When she started working in radio herself, it was inspiring for her to see someone like Claudia de Breij or Annemieke Schollaardt win a radio award. “And I’m afraid we’ll run out of women by merging those awards.”
The Radio Audience Awards will be presented on January 26 at the Gouden RadioRing Gala. In addition to the RadioSter for best presenter, the Gouden RadioRing and an award for best podcast will also be awarded.
