entertainment">In the new PodBast the Qmusic DJ tells about the moment when she was completely done with the world of marketing and sales. Marieke (34) initially wanted to study Journalism, but because the Hogeschool Utrecht had lost her registration papers, she decided – even after a lawsuit that she had filed against the school – to ‘then’ go for the Marketing & Communication course.

entertainment">“I worked for a year for a company that makes travel programs, films about Dubai or Johannesburg to tell tourists about cool things to do in such a city. Together with a colleague and the founder of that company I flew to Dubai. We hardly knew anyone there and it was up to us to bring in almost three hundred thousand euros in income. I felt the pressure and the stress to get deals. All kinds of restaurants and amusement parks that were willing to pay to get in that movie.”

GTST moment

entertainment">And although she came to beautiful places, that world grew against her more every day. “I got more and more spots on my neck from selling, being away from home and always being at work. I made up my mind to keep it up for a year. Then I felt I would have done the right thing, and then I would have gone back to the Netherlands.”

entertainment">But it didn’t get that far. “The most dramatic”GTSTmoment’ came when I was doing a project in Antwerp, on my own. I would go there four days a week and then I would be home at the weekend. At one point I was crying in the shower, literally. Then I thought: tomorrow I will resign. I immediately wrote it down in my diary, with a towel wrapped around me and my hair still wet. Very theatrical. “I really don’t want it anymore!” I also wrote it down so that I wouldn’t nuance it a day later.”
