Marie-Line Ducassé: The Woman Behind the “Maïté” Tuffery Prize – Reading Nights Event

Marie-Line Ducassé is no stranger to Beaumont residents. Who has not met her with her students at cultural events in Beaumont where she works tirelessly to bring to life projects that are not hers? Furthermore, there are many people who follow her Writings with ever-renewed pleasure, where she gives, every day, a tasty little note of humor. But until now, she was not known to be the author of several short stories published in collective collections. No wonder, then, that she had the idea of creating a short story competition as part of reading nights.

We wanted to meet her to ask her a few questions about this project.

What gave you the idea of creating a short story competition?

This is an initiative that is not my doing. The former president of the ASC had the idea several years ago. In her honor, the association office and I took the decision to create a “Maïté” Tuffery prize intended to remember the exceptional friend and the devoted and honest president whom we lost too soon.

Why did you choose the theme of the body?

This is the theme proposed by the Ministry of Culture for this national event. It did not seem incongruous to us to propose it to our candidates.

How was the choice of the winner of this “Maïté” Tuffery prize made?

Around the ASC, we have brought together several associations. La Fabrique, the “Argumbat” eco-place, Fermat Science and the Friends of the media library agreed to set up a reading committee which met several times.

How can we justify that one of the essential events of reading nights is linked to writing?

Because the two are inseparable. People who engage with writing are often skilled readers. And we are taking this logic to the end by inviting all those who want to express themselves to experience the pleasure of writing as part of a writing workshop led by the philosopher Zarina Khan. An immersive experience they won’t soon forget!

Saturday January 20 at 3 p.m., writing workshop (registration with the ASC: asc.beaumont@sfr); price: €15. At 5:30 p.m., conference. At 7 p.m., awards ceremony and readings around an aperitif dinner.
