My summer was spent under the sign of pain, but I’m fine now! The agonistic sensations had already subsided less than a month ago. This is what Kiril Marichkov, the favorite “cricket” of several generations, told “Bulgaria Dnes”.
The musician is looking forward to his participation of the group “Foundation” on the stage of “Apolonia”, which is scheduled for September 7. This is also the first appearance of the Bulgarians’ favorite performer in front of an audience after the accident.
Due to the unbearable pain from the broken bones in his back, Marichkov returned ahead of schedule and missed part of the planned concerts of the “Foundation” overseas. The boys finished their American tour without the “cricket”, which they had organized on the occasion of his 80th anniversary. Marichkov, after finishing their performance in San Francisco, due to the inhuman pain and on the advice of a doctor, returned to his homeland to undergo examinations and treatment. His colleagues, alarmed at the time, also found him a companion for the trip.
“I’m fine now, and God willing, I’ll be like that because I’ll be traveling to Sozopol the day before the performance,” Marichkov says impatiently. For his particular participation, at the insistence of doctors, he will refrain from dancing, jumping and lifting weights. “The doctors forbade me any sudden movements and told me not to lift anything heavier than my guitar,” explained the “cricket” and added: “The truth is that my situation was much worse than the inflamed disc herniation after falling on our beautiful Bulgarian boulevards”.
On a rainy day before the trip to the USA, the musician was walking on the street, saw a huge puddle, which he went to jump over, but did not see that the cover of the street manhole was raised because it was covered with rainwater. “I tripped in this shaft for street cables and fell down with all my weight, which further complicated the situation with my lower back and inflamed the hernia. Very unpleasant work,” says Marichkov. It turned out after an X-ray and his return from the USA that, in addition to the hernia, the singer also broke several vertebrae on his back. “They performed an operation on me, they used a laparoscopic method – that is, without cutting. While the doctors looked on a screen where the fractures were on the vertebrae, they filled the gaps with needles, using medical cement. That’s why I was in a lot of pain for a long time, but now I’ve stabilized,” he admits Marichkov. But he does not hide: “After the accident, I have become a bit fatalistic.” Therefore, he avoids heavy lifting and avoids standing for long periods of time to prevent the pain from reoccurring.
“The good thing is that we with the Foundation perform concerts sitting on high chairs, and the even better thing is that at the upcoming Apollonia concert I will be playing with an electric acoustic guitar, which is much lighter than the bass guitar, which and it weighs 10 kg. And I won’t jump on stage at all”, he tells with a smile and with impatience how the musician will take care of himself.
However, he reluctantly admits that the street accident caused his height to decrease.
“The doctors warned me that my height will decrease because of the broken vertebrae. You know that with age the height decreases. And although I am slim, because of the old age I am 3 cm shorter, and when I measured myself after the operation, it turned out that that my height has decreased by another 4 centimeters”, resents the “cricket”.
All of Bulgaria is waiting for the “Foundation” concert on October 30 in Hall 1 of the National Palace of Culture, which is also Kiril Marichkov’s birthday. The audience, eager to express their love and respect for the most famous “cricket”, as well as to enjoy his talent, yearns to sing along with him on the occasion of the 80th anniversary: ”I swear to the Devil and God that I will do for you what I can. I swore!”.
