Everything has yet to sink in for Marianne Veenstra. The singer-songwriter from Coevorden won with It’s as sure (as a pinch of salt) Drèents Liedties Festival (DLF). “It’s still so surreal!”
Revolution? After her glorious victory, Veenstra is back in the truck. Not behind the wheel; that would also be a bit reckless. “I feel like I haven’t slept,” she says with small eyes, in the passenger seat near Münster.
On the road she can let it all sink in for a moment. It is easier to achieve processing success from the truck cabin than under the sheets. “Finally you think: maybe I should go to sleep, but it didn’t work out. It’s like you’re on a roller coaster at the top and you’re not big going down. That feels. Then sleep.”
The Coevordense had not counted on the successful outcome of the DLF. When the points were distributed, position number 1 was out of sight, but a revolution continued. “I looked at the scoreboard and said to my guitar: you can’t do it anymore.” After that, Veenstra climbed slowly but surely, resulting in the highest final ranking.
That performance caused complete confusion. “I was still working out, but I couldn’t do it anymore. Eventually the penny dropped.”
Veenstra will enter the studio tomorrow It’s as sure (as a pinch of salt) to register. She will also represent Low Saxon at the European Song Contest for Minorities in Udine (Italy). And she is Drenthe’s representative for the Regional Song Contest.
These are new milestones in the making. But also something that comes later. First enjoy the sweet taste of last night to the fullest. “It’s off my bucket list. Unbelievable.”
