Marianna Budanova, the wife of the head of the Ukrainian Military Intelligence, Kirill Budanova, was poisoned – this is what the representative of the Military Intelligence Agency (HUR) told the Kyiv Independent newspaper on November 28.
Andris Yusov, a representative of the Military Intelligence Service of Ukraine, officially confirmed that Budanova has been poisoned with heavy metals and is being treated.
Earlier, on November 28, Ukrainian media Babel, citing undisclosed military intelligence sources, reported that Budanova was admitted to the hospital after a prolonged deterioration of her health.
“The course of treatment is now being completed and then the doctors will carry out a check-up,” the source said.
“These substances are not used in any way in household and military affairs. Their presence may indicate a purposeful attempt to poison a specific person.”
Ukrainska Pravda later reported, citing sources in the security service, that Budanova “is doing better now that she has undergone the first stage of treatment.”
Marianna Budanova is a psychologist, volunteer and social worker.
In 2020, she unsuccessfully ran for the Kyiv City Council as a candidate for Kyiv Mayor Vitaly Klitschko’s UDAR party. After that, she has worked as an adviser to Klitschko on anti-corruption issues in youth politics and sports.
Budanov said in an interview in August that his wife, Marianna, lives with him in his office and that the couple is constantly together for security reasons.
Budanov was promoted to lieutenant general in September, and more than 10 attempts to kill him have previously been reported.
