Stone filed a lawsuit yesterday against Carey, another song writer and record company Sony Music Entertainment, reports Reuters news agency† He wants to see money: 20 million dollars.

Songwriter Stone, aka Vince Vance of the band Vince Vance & the Valiants, released a song of the same title a few years before Carey.

Cause confusion
By calling her Christmas hit “All I Want for Christmas Is You”, Carey is said to have taken advantage of his “popularity and unique style” and caused confusion among music fans.

The songs have different lyrics and melody, but share a title. It is not known why Stone only lodged a complaint after 28 years.
According to Reuters, the indictment shows that the first contact between lawyers for Carey and Stone was last April. But they couldn’t come to an agreement at the time.
