Mariah Carey is said to be in talks to do Apple TV + specials, following the apparent success of her recent Christmas show. The Sun reported that the superstar is already in talks about a follow-up in 2021.
Apple TV + willing to “spend money” on Mariah Carey
Mariah Carey’s magical Christmas special on Apple TV + was “meant to be unique, but it was a runaway hit,” a source told the British tabloid. “No one could have predicted its success and it reached number one on their charts in more than 100 countries. Apple bosses now want to secure it for another special show next year. Mariah’s team, of course, is completely behind this and everyone is going to do what they can to make this happen, ”they added. ‘They spent over £ 4 million [$5.4 million] on this year’s show, but next year this could go even higher. Apple knows the value of Mariah and is willing to spend cash to follow up even bigger and better.
Worth it?
Of course, no official audience figures for the show have been released, but if they are as the source claims, Mariah Carey’s Magical Christmas Special was something of a hit for Apple TV +. However, what worked with this year’s special was that it was a bit of fun under difficult circumstances (and circumstances where a lot of people were watching a lot of television). However, we all hope that Christmas 2021 will look very different, and while $ 5.4 million is not a large sum for Apple, will such a program work too if people can hang out with friends and family? Most important to the company, is anyone going to subscribe to Apple TV + as a result of a Mariah Carey special? I’m not so sure…
