Maria Jungner remembered the former TV announcer in a way that many cannot: “It’s an empty feeling” – 2024-03-04 06:45:22

Three Finns shared their memories of the late Maria Jungner. According to them, Jungner exuded an extraordinary cordiality.

TV announcer Maria Jungner died suddenly at the weekend at the age of 50. The sad news has shocked people widely, and Jungner was remembered with beautiful words on Sunday, among other things, on social media.

Finns remember the late TV announcer with sadness and longing.

Between 1986 and 1994, worked as an announcer on Yle’s Swedish-language TV channel Thorbjörn Sirén says that he was shocked when he heard about Jungner’s death.

– We weren’t working at the same time, and I stopped working already in 1994. I’ve visited (the workplace) a few times since then to meet old acquaintances and colleagues. In connection with that, I have also met Maria, he says.

– Yes, this came as a shock when he was so young compared to me and all the others who were on the Swedish-speaking side.

Sirén describes Jungner as a warm and cheerful person who always had something good to say. Although, according to Sirén, there were several years between her and Jungner’s meetings, Jungner always remembered her in the meetings as if only weeks had passed between the meetings.

– It’s an empty feeling when you leave us at such a young age.

Calm and friendly

From Raasepor Anita Nissinen, 73, did not know or have met Jungner. He still says that he experienced sadness and disbelief when he read the news on Sunday.

– Maria has been somehow like that, for as long as she has been on screen, she has exuded such peace. He was so calm, and his face was really friendly, Nissinen recalls.

Nissine always got a warm, genuine and expert feeling about Jungner when he acted as an announcer.

– Every time I visited my elderly mother, we talked about exactly the same thing. My mom always said there’s a nice girl in there.

“Extraordinary, Radiant Power”

Also from Lohja Arto Tossavainen became sad when he heard the sad news.

– It was really sad. He brought such a positive light to it, he was quite a different announcer from others. He was somehow so heartwarmingly lovely and warm. Yes, his sudden passing makes me sad, he says.

Tossavainen says that he is already retired, and actively follows current events also on TV news. According to Tossavainen, there was something extraordinary about Jungner’s performance.

– It doesn’t come from all (announcers) in the same way, but he had such an extraordinary, radiant power.

Jungner had a long career at Yle. According to many Finns, he transmitted a calm and warm feeling to the other side of the screen. Down Liesimaa

Tossavainen sends his condolences to Jungner’s family and friends.

– If only I could somehow share comfort with this family, but I can’t say anything other than help the relatives. A passing away is so tragic when it is so final.

Jungner started as a TV announcer in 1998 and worked at Yle until his death. During his career, he also made radio programs, and edited Yle’s Ykköskatsomo program.
