Maria Gabriel from GERB-SDS Freezes Negotiations with “Continuing Change” amidst Recording Scandal

“I was silent for a long time, I listened a lot. I notified Nikolay Denkov. We freeze negotiations with “Continuing change”, everything has a limit. Democracy cannot be built on lies.” This was stated by Maria Gabriel from GERB-SDS.

The management of GERB and the Executive Committee of the party gave a briefing after the People’s Representative Radostin Vasilev distributed a recording of a meeting of “We continue the change”.

“It’s about a vision, about managing the country. For a manner in which the principles of the Republic are observed. Without clear guarantees, I would not be able to commit“, she also said.

“I see that at this stage an expert government continues to have support, but I need more clarity. Until there are answers and guarantees of compliance with these principles, we are freezing the negotiations. I’m waiting for answers before we get to the guarantees,” emphasized Maria Gabriel.

„Negotiations can be unfrozen. The apology is not an apology to me, but to the Bulgarian citizens, administration, teachers and officers. Respect is for our partners and citizens. This will predetermine whether there will be a thaw,” specified the candidate for prime minister.

“People meet me and ask me why I humiliate the party. I explain that this is good for the state, let’s adopt a budget. We talked about a constitutional majority. It’s not about an apology or what they’re talking about there. The question is how they think the country is run. We have had no people in the services for two years. We do not push ourselves to become ministers. That is why we speak of an expert government. You heard what they are saying about the local elections – to be held with their own interior minister,” said GERB chairman Boyko Borisov.

“Yes, every party can have ambitions, but we did not talk about such things at the meetings. We have talked about five priorities that we are implementing. Yes, I proposed Asen Vassilev, because if it wasn’t for him, he would later say – “I would have proposed a 3% deficit”. I have a serious problem with my colleagues who were not at the negotiations. It came to us like a bolt from the blue. I thought some bastards had been bugging them. This is hardly the end. This is not about apologizing to Maria or her husband. I met Kiril Petkov’s father 30 years ago. We may remember the youthful years. The party is raging at the moment – we are going honestly and with priorities”, said the chairman of GERB.

“Talks will be unfrozen if we see a desire, whatever “Yes, Bulgaria” stated – for expert government“, emphasized Boyko Borisov.

„As if Messi won and gave the cup to France. Fans will go crazy for what he does. We were in the same situation. Most people understood that it was good for the country. The records expired when we set out to form a government. Unregulated entries. I wouldn’t have paid attention if it wasn’t for the way they wanted to run the country. They were quite good people in the conversations. I never thought that they were hiding this behind our backs,” he commented.

“I don’t see how it will happen for a third term.” then elections are a much fairer option to the people“, the chairman of GERB is convinced.

The apology from PP

“In the long night in which the PP had to make a fateful decision for the second term, there were many emotions, opinions, qualifications. There was also an imprecise statement on my part about Mrs. Maria Gabrielthat’s why I would like to clearly state my personal opinion about her,” Kiril Petkov wrote on Facebook after the recording was published.

“I believe that Maria Gabriel is an example of the courage and ability of women in politics. Deep respect to her and to any lady who has decided to make politics a vocation. I know how difficult it is to decide on this step and even more so to stay. And I know just as well how necessary and invaluable it is. With such examples, I believe that we are sending a strong message and motivation for more women to understand that the place of each of you is exactly where you choose”, the co-chairman of the PP also states.

“I have not spoken with Maria (GERB-SDS Prime Minister nominee Maria Gabriel), but I think that her position at the moment will be that of a person whose trust has been broken. And this can be restored – I speak on my own behalf, if “We continue the change” clearly and categorically say that Maria will go to the president to receive the mandate”.
