Maria Dolores Padilla Olbathe acting director of the Teatro Principal de Alicante, will be the herald of the Alicante Holy Week in 2023. Padilla Olba has more than forty years of experience in culture and was also a councilor for the Alicante City Council with the Popular Party. The Junta Mayor has also announced the programming of two concerts scheduled for March 10 and 17, both in the Co-Cathedral of San Nicolás. The first of them, “The Seven Last Words of Christ on the Cross”, will begin at 8:00 p.m. and will be performed by the Almus Quartet, made up of Vincent Anton y Francesc Navalquillo (violins); John Octavius (viola) and Francisco Pastor (cello).
“The Seven Last Words of Christ on the Cross” was composed by Joseph Haydn for the Cathedral of Cádiz in 1786. It was intended for the recitation of this prayer performed by the Brotherhood of the Holy Cave during Good Friday. It consists of an overture, seven sonatas, and a brief rapid finale that is interspersed with the last seven sentences that Jesus Christ pronounced before dying. “It is one of the great works of music of all time. that we people from Alicante will be able to enjoy again after many years without it having been played in this city”, explained Sanchís.

The Municipal Symphonic Band will be the protagonist of the Concert organized by the Junta Mayor on Friday, March 17, at the Co-Cathedral, from 8:15 p.m.. Marches related to Alicante brotherhoods and brotherhoods will be interpreted. The invited musical groups will be those of Santa Cruz de los Espejos (Archena), Santo Sepulcro (Oliva) and La Verónica (Tobarra). They will depart, respectively, from the squares of Spain, Luceros and Montañeta to converge in the one of the City Hall, where the concert will be held.
