Maria De Filippi is one of the conductors still in business most loved by the Italian public. Probably for that of Mediaset she is in effect the most loved: it is no coincidence that she is called “Queen Mary”. She is a tireless worker, as well as leading successful programs, she is also an author and entrepreneur. Perhaps not everyone knows that behind many Mediaset programs there is also her: an example above all is Temptaion Island, which although not seeing her participation as a presenter, is still a format conceived and edited by her production company. . There is great uncertainty about her future: the most accredited hypothesis is that at least for this year she will jump. The fact that in April she will start “Last Stop” could be the confirmation of the suspension (hopefully momentary) of the reality show that tests the loyalty of couples. As many know, De Filippi has long been married to Maurizio Costanzo. Her husband said that the one with Maria is (and will be) the longest romantic relationship of her life. For some time she has been conducting “There is mail for you”, “Friends”, “Men and Women” and “Tu Si Que Vales”. Last night the last episode of 2022 of “There is mail for you” was broadcast, a program that is proposed every year in the period from the first ten days of January to mid-March. Barring major unforeseen events, the show will return in January 2023.
Many will remember that the first episode with the extravagant Neapolitan couple was followed by a very high number of people and in the following 24 hours it was a topic of discussion on social networks. The following episodes have not achieved the same success: the 25th edition, data in hand, will not go into the archive as the best in terms of ratings. Yes, because the data on television ratings confirm it: Maria De Filippi did not manage to maintain the same ratings as the first episode. Judging by the numbers it was a slow and almost constant descent. According to what was released by Auditel, the first episode came within a whisker of 6 million viewers: 5 million and 950 thousand to be exact. The second stopped at 5 million and 546 thousand. The third and fourth were better: 5 million and 567 thousand and 5 million and 627 thousand respectively. From 12 February to 12 March the curve was downward: 5,343,000, then 5,005,000 7 days later, then 4,703,000 on February 26, to close with a very slight rise, with 4 million and 800 thousand of the final episode aired last night 12 March. In a few days, therefore, “There is Mail for you” has lost almost 1 million viewers.
Warning: the numbers are enviable. Many presenters would sign with blood in order to make an average of over 5 million viewers for eight consecutive evenings. But it is equally true, as Gossipetv points out, that Maria’s show hadn’t gone below 5 million on average since 2018. In 2019, 2020 and 2021 the numbers had been much better: in particular in 2021, when Italy was in full lockdown, the broadcast averaged over 6 million viewers. The most followed episode ever in the last three years was that of March 14, 2020 (first weekend in total lockdown): over 7,100,000 people watched it. An average similar to 2022 is that of 2017: at the time the eight episodes obtained results almost identical to those of the current year. In short, a good but not excellent season for Maria De Filippi’s format. After the euphoria of the first episode, the remaining seven have obtained more than enough numbers but, given the enormous expectations, not exciting. In 2023 the ‘revenge’ of “There is mail for you” will surely arrive.
