The opposition leader of Venezuela Maria Corina Machado congratulated this Wednesday the president-elect of USA, Donald Trumpwhile telling him that the Caribbean country is experiencing “decisive days” after the presidential elections on July 28, in which Nicolas Maduro won a controversial victory, which is not recognized by Washington.

Through X, Machado took the opportunity to congratulate Trump to reiterate his complaint of fraud in the official result of the Venezuelan elections, rejected by the main opposition coalition, the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD)which ensures that its candidate, Edmundo González Urrutiadefeated Maduro at the polls.

«Venezuela is experiencing decisive days (…). We know that we have the support of the people of the Americas and their democratic governments to ensure a transition to democracy without delay. And we also know that we have always counted on you.”said the former deputy.

Although Maduro’s re-election was validated by the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ)the PUD and numerous countries that do not recognize the official result of the elections hope that a transition will occur in Venezuela, especially taking into account that the new presidential six-year term will begin on January 10.

«President Trump, the democratic government that we Venezuelans elected on July 28 will be a reliable ally to work with your administration for the well-being of our people, the return of our families, hemispheric security, the political stability of the region and the real use of our energy potential»Machado remarked.

González Urrutia, exiled in Spain Since September 8, he also congratulated Trump through social networks, where he spread a message in which he identified himself as “president-elect” of Venezuela.

Until now, the Venezuelan Government has not publicly reacted to the triumph of Trump, who in his previous government (2017-2021) was Maduro’s main political adversary, whom he calls a “dictator”, and imposed numerous sanctions on the South American country, including restrictions on its oil industry.
