María Camila Osorio recovered her smile in Paris, where
for the first time he won a match in the final table of Roland Garros,
a short time after having left behind a long injury and seeing himself competing again at the highest level.
The one from Cucutá defeated in her debut on Parisian clay the French Harmony Tan, invItated by the organizers, by 6-4 and 6-3 in 1 hour and 22 minutes. She overcame the public, the memory of last year, when after overcoming the previous phase she was defeated from the start.
“For me, it was a difficult game, the rival was French, with the public in favor, I was tenselast year I passed ‘quali’, but I lost the first game,” the 54th player in the world told Efe.
“I am very happy, excited, a dream come true to be here and wanting to play the next game“added the tennis player who recognizes that she has gained in maturity, but also that she has a long way to go.
In her mind, the joy of victory is mixed with emotion, because her next rival could be the Czech Barbora Krejcikova, nonumber 2 in the ranking and defender of the title, which predicts a duel in styleof those that tennis players always want to play.
“It will be a difficult match, but I want to enter to compete, which is what I like (…) If my rival is Krejcikova, I will play on a big court. We work to have games like these. Not long ago I was in my house, in the bed, injured, watching the matches on TV and now I may play with the number 2 in the world,” he said.
“Having these opportunities is a blessing. The opportunities are to take advantage of them, but also to enjoy them,” added the Colombian, who she must wait to see the result of last year’s winner in her match against France’s Diane Parry.
In any case, Osorio has recovered his smile and the desire to practice the sport for which he works hard. “I’m happy because I had fun on the track, I even laughed. I think that’s important”said the player after her reunion with the Roland Garros courts a year later.
Twelve months in which many things have happened, has added wins and has been able to improve its classification, which has given it additional value on the circuit.
“In this time I have played many games, I have done a lot of training, and I have also had injuries. All that makes you mature, helps you in the process. It is a long road, with ups and downs. You have to be focused, not get so excited with the victories or get disappointed with the defeats,” he reflects.
An apprenticeship that allows him to face duels better. “When I go on court I don’t just go see what happens, I have a plan, I know what I can do, I have my shots. There are days that don’t come out and I’m learning to look for solutions when they don’t exist. I don’t resign myself to bad things, I’m going to find a way to turn them around,” he says.
Much of that evolution, he acknowledges, takes place in his head, rather than in his tennis. “I am improving mentally. Before I used to think about each point a lotnow I think more about the next one and about improving,” said the tennis player who considers herself a follower of Roger Federer.
“I jump with the illusion of winning every game, but also with the intention of enjoying it. One creates expectations, but you have to keep your feet on the ground, enjoy the moment, it’s how things have turned out the best for me“, adds the player, who does not set goals.
For now, he lives a dream, that of advancing in his favorite tournament, on the surface where he grew up tennis.
“Playing on clay is important for every South American tennis player, we all dream of being in this tournament, it’s the surface we started playing on. SIt means a lot to me to be here, for all the work I’ve been doing since I was little,” she said.
