GLASGOW. Horror scenes unfolded in the women’s World Cup final in pole vaulting.
Frenchwoman Margot Chevrier, 24, twisted her ankle so that the leg bone stuck straight out.
– It was horrible to see! Terrible, says Greg Duplantis to Sportbladet.
It was in the first attempt of 4.65 that the French Margot Chevrier got the approach wrong and tried to cancel her jump.
But everything went wrong and she landed badly.
So bad that the ankle was torn to shreds and the leg stuck straight out.

Screamed out his pain
Chevrier screamed out his pain and was then carried out on a stretcher with his ankle fixed.
She is now being treated in hospital.
– It was horrible to see! At the same time, it is the most common injury in pole vaulting. You fall short and you look for somewhere to put your foot down. Then the accident will happen, says Greg Duplantis to Sportbladet.
Friend with Duplantis
He and Mondo Duplantis are good friends with Margot Chevrier.
– We have known her for many years. She is an incredibly nice girl. I wish her all the best, says Greg.
Finland’s medal hope Wilma Murto, 25, was also forced to cancel the WC final with an ankle injury, but a less serious one.
– I started to feel it last week. I tried today but it just got worse and worse and I didn’t want to take any risks, she says afterwards.
Molly Caudery, Great Britain, won the gold at 4.80.
Eliza McCartney, New Zealand, took silver and Katie Moon, USA, bronze.
The men’s pole vault final with Mondo Duplantis as huge gold favorite is tomorrow (Sunday) night.
