Slovak footballer Marek Hamšík will play for the Turkish Trabzonspor from the new year. He signed a two-year contract with the club, which will earn him income of 1.5 million euros per season.

According to AFP, the 30-year-old midfielder will also receive a bonus for signing the contract in the amount of 700,000 euros. Trabzonspor presented him in a video with jersey number 17, a gladiator’s helmet and the inscription: “GLADYATOR #Grande #MarekHamsik”. Before the upcoming European Championships, the captain of the Slovak national team worked in the Swedish IFK Gothenburg.
Hamšík spent most of his career in Naples, Italy. He worked in the club from Mount Vesuvius between 2007 and 2019. He won the Italian Cup twice with him and scored 121 goals, thus breaking the shooting record of the legendary Argentine Diego Maradona. He later worked in the Chinese Ta-liana and in March agreed on a short-term contract with Gothenburg, for which he managed to play six league matches and score one goal. Trabzonspor will be an official player from July 1.
Trabzonspor finished fourth last year and will play in the European Conference League next season. The club from the city by the Black Sea is the most successful in Turkey among those who do not live in Istanbul. He has six titles in the collection, the last one he won in 1984.
In the past, there was a large Slovak enclave in Trabzone, in the year 2017/2018 his jersey was worn by Juraj Kucka, Tomáš Hubočan, Matúš Bero and Ján Ďurica.
