Escorted by two Jas 39 Gripen, Wandt landed at Bromma airport.
– I am so proud to have done this assignment. To be able to come home and receive such a warm welcome is absolutely incredible, says Marcus Wandt to SVT’s reporter.
According to Wandt, one of the highlights of the space was answering the school children’s questions.
– The wonderful interest I felt, it was strong.
What surprised you the most, what was it?
– The enormous feeling of momentum build-up during the launch surprised me in a very positive way.
The return journey was postponed several times due to bad weather conditions. Wandt was supposed to be at the space station ISS for two weeks, but because of the delays, he was there for 18 days. He landed on the coast of Florida on February 9.
The minister: “A bit worried there for a while”
Shortly after arriving in Sweden, a press conference was held with, among others, the Minister of Education Mats Persson (L).
– Thank you Marcus for coming home, some of us were a little worried there for a while, Persson said with a smile.
The cost of Sweden’s three-year space investment is approximately SEK 450 million.
During the space trip, Wandt conducted experiments for Swedish researchers, but the trip is important for the whole world, according to Persson.
– Sweden is a “small and smart country”. We are a technology country, an engineering country and have a lot to offer the world.
