RUKA. Both Calle Halfvarsson and William Poromaa went out in the sprint qualifying in Ruka.
The latter went on painkillers for back pain.
– Three days ago I couldn’t ski and I almost started to laugh and turned home, says Poromaa to Sporbladet.
Calle Halfvarsson, Emil Danielsson, Johan Häggström, Marcus Grate, Edvin Anger and William Poromaa were on the starting line in the sprint qualifier in the World Cup premiere in Ruka.
Halfvarsson had a tough qualifier and came in 6.35 seconds behind the lead.
He missed the quarter finals, as did William Poromaa who was not or was not in the top 30.
Couldn’t go three days ago
– I’m disappointed because I like this sprint, now I just have to go home and recharge for tomorrow, says Halfvarsson.
Does the body feel okay?
– Hard to say. We’ll see how it responds to 10 kilometers tomorrow.
William Poromaa crashed and injured his back in Gällivare last weekend and is on painkillers. He was positive despite the exodus.
– Even if I’m not on the right side, it’s a positive day. Three days ago I couldn’t ski and I almost started laughing and turned home, he says and continues:
– It is going in the right direction and it feels better, but it will take some time.
Marcus Grate fastest
Marcus Grate, for his part, followed up his victory in the Swedish premiere in Gällivare by being fastest in the qualifier. He was ahead of Erik Valnes and the favorite Johannes Hösflot Kläbo.
– It was very nice of course, it was fun to drive. It felt like the body responded well and it was just a matter of trusting it, says Grate.
Emil Danielsson, Johan Häggström and Edvin Anger also advanced to the quarter-finals.
