“Marcona had the Luis Felipe de las Casas Grieve Public Technological Higher Education Institute, where four technical careers were developed, which we saw were of interest to us because people who could dedicate themselves to mechanics, information technologies, mechatronics and nursing could be trained there. “, explained the executive.

He added that said institute had been created for more than 25 years, but had a deteriorated and undeveloped infrastructure, for which Marcobre and its strategic partner ISA REP joined forces to modernize the infrastructure and incorporate three new technical careers, under the investment modality. public Works for Taxes (OxI).

“We managed to complete the work within the deadline and deliver it to the city, thus becoming the second best equipped technological institute in the country and the first in the southern region. We even got involved with the management and the Minedu to achieve its licensing and add three careers that we have promoted in this higher center,” he explained.

For Guillermo Reyes, the most important thing was that it was possible to close a technological training gap in Marcona, an action that generated a better reputation for the mining company, which made it possible to demonstrate that mining does generate progress in the environment where it carries out its activities. of investment mechanisms such as OxI.

In addition to what was done with the IESTP Felipe de las Casas Grieve, the representative highlighted that Marcobre, in coordination with the UGEL Nazca, has been launching the Leaders of Change program, through which the support and training of children and adolescents in the topics of logical-mathematical and reading comprehension.

“Today, Marcona is a district that is above the national average in the PISA assessments. So there we have identified the infrastructure and training gaps that have allowed us to achieve recognition and that under the OxI tool this can materialize and we can support the Minedu to shorten these gaps,” he concluded.
