Marco Verde is supported by the neighborhood

Mazatlan, Sinaloa. To celebrate the fight of the young boxer, Marco Alonso Verde Álvarez, “el Green”, the residents of the “La Montuosa” neighborhood will accompany the boxer from a distance in his fight for gold at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

A large screen will be placed between 13 de Abril and Josefa Ortiz de Domínguez streets in the Montuosa neighborhood by the Mazatlán Municipal Sports Institute, so that not only the boxer’s neighbors can follow the broadcast, but also anyone who wants to attend the Olympic boxing final.

The residents of the populous neighborhood, which in the 70s and 80s was one of the tough neighborhoods, full of conflicts and fights between gangs, have now been invited to welcome the “Green” when he triumphs in the style of the movie “El Bronco” filmed in that sector, where they can recreate the scenes where the actor Valentín Trujillo, a tough boxer, upon winning the fight walks through the streets surrounded by people with banners and cheers.

In La Montuosa, where the Olympic competitor lives, Marco Alfonso Verde decided as a child between being a baseball player or a boxer, it was the great choice of his life to fulfill his long-awaited dream of reaching the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

“El Green” began as a baseball fan at the age of six in the “Juárez” fields of Mazatlán and at ten years old he first set foot in a gym on the German Evers field where he began training with his father Samuel “Samy” Verde, to whom he promised to win a gold medal.

He combined the two sports as if it were a game, from school to training, until he reached the age of 13 and his father asked him to decide between baseball and boxing, because he was already beginning to feel the symptoms of stress due to his busy life of combining the two sports and attending school.

Boxing was a decision that the Pope did not like because it was a rough, difficult sport that required discipline, strength, courage and willpower, he said in an interview, and because Samy already had the experience of having participated in the Barcelona Olympics in 1992. Baseball has always been his hobby, he would like to play it, but not professionally because he does not have the time.

The young boxer, 22 years old, (Mazatlán, February 11, 2002) has combined boxing with his studies. He pointed out that a high-performance athlete has to put his training first before anything else, because he has to go to camps, some of which last for months.

Studying a Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition from the Academic Unit of Gastronomy at the Autonomous University of Sinaloa (UAS) is another of her priorities, which has helped her a lot, although she has her nutritionists assigned to the competitions in which she participates.

It is a field that he wants to pursue at some point because he likes it and knows the importance of nutrition for athletes. He highlights the great help he has received from his parents, who are the ones who prepare his diet to stay in shape.

During these eleven years, everything I have achieved has been worth it. The only thing that weighs on me is not having celebrations with my family, with my parents, with my mother’s parents, because these are things that will never weigh on me again because I am always dreaming of reaching my goal, my objective of winning the Olympic medal.

She admits that combining her studies with sport has been complicated, but she has disciplined herself to achieve her goals, because she always dreamed of participating in the 2024 Olympic Games and always had in mind winning the gold medal.

She said that her goal “has not been easy at all, from getting up early for training, to even finishing the tasks that teachers ask for at school, but it is a process that I have assimilated over the years, to which I have adapted very well, because I agree with the teachers to complete projects or exams that I have to present, because I want to finish my degree.”

In order to be able to be in the 2024 Olympics, “Green” has been trained since he was 10 years old by Redames Hernández, who in 2021 received the State Sports Award, in the conventional sports category and in 2023 received 2 stars from the International Boxing Association (IBA), which accredit him as an international coach.

Governor Rubén Rocha Moya, through his social network, pointed out that the Sinaloa boxer Marco Verde continues to demonstrate his integrity in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, with a great fight today and the victory that takes him to the final of this discipline. The dream of gold can come true, come on Marco, let’s go with everything!

Mazatlán fans are celebrating, it has a tradition of great famous boxers, in times past Joe Conde or Margarita Montes “la maya”, from different colonies not only from Montuosa, popular boxers have come out, in current times Pedro Guevara, Gilberto Ramírez, among others.

Marco Alonso Verde is targeting Mexican sport, as no boxer has reached the final of the Olympic Games since 1984.

He qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics after winning the gold medal at the 2023 Pan American Games, before winning silver at BOXAM Romania in 2024, and is considered an eight-time national champion.
