Vorarlberg’s Marco Rossi scored a goal in his Minnesota Wild‘s 5-1 away win in the North American ice hockey league NHL on Wednesday night – his third of the season.
The 23-year-old had previously scored two goals and three assists in the five games of the season so far. The third goal came in the sixth game, in which Minnesota successfully measured itself against the host Florida Panthers, Stanley Cup winners and therefore NHL champions.
With his goal, Rossi collected a scorer point in five games in a row for the first time in his NHL career. With Minnesota scoring again, it was the first time in 16 years that the team scored points in all of the first six games of the season. Minnesota has never been behind before this season – including this time.
This makes the Minnesota Wild only the second team in the NHL to achieve this in the first six games of the season. The record is held by the Boston Bruins (with seven) from 1969.
Kasper can’t score in Detroit’s 1-0 win
Striker Rossi was the first to score in the first third (11:40). He was followed by teammates Marcus Johansson 22 seconds later and Matt Boldy at the beginning of the second period before “Panther” Sam Bennett scored the only goal for the opponent. In the second third, Mats Zuccarello and Joel Eriksson completed the Minnesota Wild’s 5-1 win; the third period was goalless. Rossi was unable to improve his assist score in this game.
Another Austrian’s team was also successful in the NHL – also away: Marco Kasper’s Detroit Red Wings won 1-0 against the New York Islanders in Hempstead. However, the 20-year-old from Carinthia was unable to score any points. His teammate Patrick Kane scored the only goal of the game (already in the first third, 08:54). It was Kasper’s third NHL game. He has one assist so far.
Detroit now has three wins and three defeats. They moved from last to second-to-last in the Eastern Conference’s Atlantic Division. The Montreal Canadiens are now bringing up the rear. The Minnesota Wild are in second place in the Western Conference (Central Division) behind the Winnipeg Jets.
