Marco Kroon finds the inverted flag ‘insult to soldiers’

According to Kroon, the blue-white-red that is frequently seen at the farmers’ protests is ‘a direct insult to the thousands of soldiers, civilians, agents, firemen and all others who have made the highest sacrifice in the service of the State of the Netherlands’.

On his LinkedIn page he writes: “Of course I am aware of the whole situation surrounding the nitrogen crisis and I really understand the emotion, the protests and the heavy load. But please treat our Dutch flag with the necessary respect. (. .) The freedom of these colors has been paid for with Dutch blood.”

In De Telegraaf he adds today: “We only have one unity symbol and you have to stay away from that. If you do not agree with the board of Ajax, you will not change the logo. You are allowed to demonstrate, but stay away from our national sign. off.”

Kroon advises people who do not agree with the cabinet and the political decision-making process: “Feel free to demonstrate, hold a referendum if necessary or wait patiently for new elections and vote. But don’t touch our flag.”

The inverted flag has often been seen at the farmers’ protests in recent weeks. In seafaring, such a flag flying upside down is a sign of distress.

Various organizations have also used the flag upside down in recent years to indicate that the transfer need is high. For example, the symbol was used by the Black Lives Matter movement. The inverted flag already appeared in 2019 during farmer demonstrations in The Hague, and was subsequently also used by anti-corona demonstrators.
