Marco Borsato has for the first time reacted to the gossip that he has abused underage girls, unproven rumors that have been circulating for some time on so-called ‘juice channels‘. The Dutch singer (54) allowed those stories to continue for a long time, but is now obliged to take legal action: he asks the Dutch court to investigate the people who spread such stories.

“As early as mid-2020, Mr. Marco Borsato has requested Knoops’ Advocaten NV to conduct an investigation into a number of insinuations related to the allegation that he has exhibited sexually transgressive behavior with underage girls,” Borsato’s lawyers wrote on Thursday. in a press release.

They refer to the stories that the singer allegedly abused girls aged 13 and 15, including during a barbecue that the man organized at home for candidates he accompanied in the talent show ‘The Voice Kids’, or so the story goes. . Such allegations had been circulating for months on so-called ‘juice channels‘, channels on YouTube, Whatsapp or other social media where the wildest stories are given full scope. As far as we know, these allegations are without foundation: according to Dutch media, there is no knowledge of a report or an ongoing investigation at the police.

Out of the spotlight

That gossip also got more resonance because Borsato has been trying to keep himself out of the spotlight for a long time. A planned duet was canceled, a tour was cancelled, as was the recording of an advertising clip for a good cause. Moreover, he was no longer seen in ‘The Voice Kids’. “So far, he has seen no reason to publicly respond to this gossip,” Borsato’s lawyers explain his silence on the case.

“However, in light of the ongoing allegations and increasing attacks by and in the press on his personal integrity and reputation, the office on behalf of Mr Borsato recently approached the Public Prosecution Service with a request to conduct an independent independent investigation into the source of the insinuations with criminal consequences, if necessary,” said the press release. “The requested investigation by the Public Prosecution Service is awaited by Mr Borsato. No further announcements are made at this time.”
