Marco Antonio Solís: more than four decades of musical inspiration

During his recent visit to Colombia, Marco Antonio Solis, El Buki, not only moved the public that filled the Movistar Arena twice to appreciate in his voice the wide musical repertoire that has moved Spanish-speaking listeners throughout 47 years dedicated to music.

It also moved local music stars who, before the author of Latin American song anthems such as If you had not gone o Your prison, they approached him with the admiration of a fan. It was the case of Jessi Uribe, who confessed on her networks that having the singer, composer and producer in front of him, she almost didn’t let go when giving him a hug.

Buki has a special charisma, the same one he gives to his songs. Some, in his early days, reached the public not only in his voice but in that of his interpreters. The ones he included in the album he made for Marisela in 1983 are classics. That’s where lyrics like If you had not gone –a must-have at his concerts–and Without him.

Solís tells the official beginning of his music career from 1976, when the first Los Bukis album was released, titled at that time Paperboard houses, but renamed as Fake love. However, three years before, the process had been brewing, alongside his cousin Joel Solís, with whom he had already attempted a previous recording.

Today, few could imagine him in anything other than music. But in an interview with journalist Adela Micha, he confessed that long before he had dreamed of being a priest and also a clown. The latter, because of the ability he had to amuse those around him.
He confessed to the same journalist that many of his songs come to him through dreams, or through moments that for him are like a trance in which first the melody arrives and then, humming, the lyrics emerge.

But his destiny, to the happiness of the public that has followed him throughout decades, since he was played on the radio with And now you go away, going through successes like More than your friendit was the music.

Solís already has, not only a long list of international awards, and even a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles.

To his concerts he brings a team of people that exceeds 40 artists on stage, including his orchestra and a ballet that accompanies him at different moments of the show.

On stage, Solís sometimes plays the guitar, sometimes other instruments, and also dances. She does not leave aside hits like Navidad sin ti or La venia bendita, generating a communion of emotions and nostalgia among the public, from songs that have love as their main message in common.

Part of this was experienced by the 22,000 attendees at the two days of Solís, on November 16 and 17 at the Movistar Arena.

The shows were part of their world tour El Buki World Tour 2023, that before arriving in Colombia it held 40 dates in the United States and continues until late December in Guatemala and different stadiums and theaters in Mexico, such as those in Cancún, Tabasco and Mérida. The tour this year has been more than 40 concerts.

“It is always a privilege to set foot once again on this land called Colombia,” said Solís about his visit to the country, with the help of TBL Live and Mercuri Entertainment.
