Let us recall that on September 20, Prime Minister Donald Tusk appointed Kierwiński as the government’s plenipotentiary for post-flood reconstruction. For this reason, Kierwiński resigned from his current mandate as an MEP.
– Marcin Kierwiński is to deal with the issue of removing the effects of the flood, so I will try to appoint him to the government as soon as possible – announced President Andrzej Duda on Monday, during his visit to the United States.

Kierwiński emphasized on Thursday that in his new role he will be responsible for coordinating all the work of state institutions. The minister’s first task is to quickly rebuild critical infrastructure.
Marcin Kierwiński returned to the government. He will deal with reconstruction after the flood
– From today from At 2 p.m. I will officially start my work – he said on TOK FM radio. Kierwiński explained that before he was officially appointed minister, he had already been working on reconstruction after the flood for a week.
When asked how long this process would take, he did not give an exact date. – I think that this reconstruction process is definitely a matter of the next few years – he said.
– The scale of infrastructure destruction is enormous. Estimation in progress. Already in the first days in the towns where the flood wave occurred, Prime Minister Tusk ordered the collection of information about the damage, Kierwiński said on TOK FM.
Andrzej Duda to Kierwiński: I will do my best to help you
During Kierwiński’s swearing-in on Thursday, President Andrzej Duda spoke. – I keep my fingers crossed for you and ask the minister to also take into account help from me and my office – he said, turning to the newly appointed minister.
– I can assure you that I – as the President of the Republic of Poland and also as a human being – will do my best to help you if there are any needs, if you consider that my, our support – here from the Chancellery of the President – is needed, I am asking for a signal, I am asking for information, Duda said.
He also thanked the politician for accepting the nomination and for “taking on a very difficult task for which there is not much time and which requires great dedication, skill and heart that must be put into helping people.”
“The task is extremely difficult”
He also referred to the flood disaster that devastated southern Poland.
– It came in the autumn period, when winter is just around the corner. And the task is extremely difficult. Therefore, I am asking the minister to seriously consider help from our side, if necessary, he declared.

Donald Tusk also made a speech during the ceremony. The Prime Minister said that he was “impressed by the president’s words.”
