More than 15,000 marcheneros and marcheneras were called to the polls this Sunday to elect their 17 councilors and constitute the City Council that will direct the 2023-2017 legislature. Five parties had their own ballot in these elections, one less than those that ran four years ago.
With one hundred percent of the vote counted, the PSOE wins with 4,749 votes (49.3%) and obtains 9 councilors, the PP adds 2,537 votes (26.3% of the votes) and five councilors. UXM (873 votes), Vox (745 votes) and Con Andalucía (647 votes) are left with one councilor, after the municipal elections in Marchena in 2023.
The mayor, the socialist María del Mar Romero, was running for her third term. Its main rival, a priori, was the PP, which also presented the same candidate as in 2019, Esther Álvarez, at the head of a list in which there were six independents, including three from 100% Andaluces, a formation that obtained a councilor in the previous elections.
In Marchena, Podemos and Izquierda Unida shared a poster under the name Con Andalucía IU Marchena and with Francisco Rey as a candidate. Vox, which was running for the first time, aspired to be mayor with José Carlos Delgado. The sixth formation also debuted: Unidos por Marchena (UxM), the new project of Andrés José Mateo, Ciudadanos candidate in 2019.

Four years ago, the PSOE had no rival. Romero almost tripled the PP’s votes and ensured a problem-free investiture and an unopposed legislature with an absolute majority translated into ten councilors, two more than he had achieved in 2015. His list obtained 52.45% of the votes. valid votes. Between the PP and Ciudadanos they added up to just over 31% (19.8% for the popular Esther Álvarez) and 12.12% for the ‘orange’ Andrés José Mateo.
Nor did it go badly for another debutant formation, 100% Andaluces, which settled the municipal elections with a councilor thanks to the vote of 583 residents (6.21%). Its then candidate, however, left the party a few weeks ago to run this March 28 on the PP list.
The emergence of Cs and 100% Andaluces left Adelante Marchena (442 votes, 4.7% of the total) and Ganar Marchena (368 votes, 3.92%) without room.
