El Paso (TX), Jan 12 (EFE News) .- With a peaceful protest, the Border Network for Human Rights (BNHR) and allied organizations in El Paso, Texas, joined this Tuesday to tell the president of the United States, Donald Trump “You are not welcome at the southern border.”
“He is right now in Alamo, Texa, celebrating the construction of his wall as his legacy, but we are going to say what his legacy is: He is not welcome because under Trump six children died in detention, three of them here in El Paso, under Trump came the militias that brought their hate speech and white supremacy, under Trump thousands of refugees are now rejected in Ciudad Juárez (Mexico), ”said Fernando García, director of BNHR.
“With Trump and with his words there was an attack here at Walmart that left 23 dead,” added the activist in reference to the August 3, 2019 shooting in which an individual named Patrick Crusius killed 23 people in a shopping center in El Paso. . After being arrested, Crusius declared that his objective was to kill Mexicans.
In the midst of the commotion that the country is experiencing after the disturbances in the Capitol last Wednesday carried out by a crowd of followers of the president, the protesters in El Paso demanded a trial for the outgoing president for these acts, in addition to presenting a formal request for the dismantling of the “wall of hate” and white supremacy.
“That when he leaves the Presidency, the White House office, that federal and state officials persecute him in the courts to give justice to the people not only for the acts he committed, violations of the Constitution, of the laws, the mistreatment of people, their political inhumanity, ”exclaimed José Rodríguez, senator for the 29th District of Texas.
“To persecute him not only in that but in criminal cases because this is a corrupt person and what he committed, I can tell you as a 45-year-old lawyer, including work with the federal government in Washington, criminal violations,” he added.
The participants of the march gathered in the Chihuahuita Park in the downtown area and ended their procession peacefully to one side of the border wall, exclaiming slogans against white supremacy and President Trump, who this Tuesday made a visit to the region to supervise the advance of the barrier.
Last December, BNHR started its 2021 Migration Reform Campaign on the Border, calling for inclusive immigration reform that incorporates a path to citizenship, the demilitarization of the southern border, the closure of immigration detention centers in the whole country and the reunification of families that were separated by immigration policies.
