March for the climate 2021: times, places, slogans …

On Sunday May 9, 2021, a new March for the climate is being held. This is called “the Next Walk”. It follows a previous walk, organized on Sunday March 28, 2021. The next day, Monday March 29, 2021, the Climate and Resilience bill was examined in the National Assembly. The demonstrators then demanded a “real climate law”.

After three weeks of debate, the Climate and Resilience law was adopted at first reading in the National Assembly on Tuesday, May 4. The text was the subject of more than 110 hours of discussion. From now on, it is the Senate which will seize it, and should vote in turn next June.

Why a new march for the climate?

While the majority described him as a “Quinquennium marker”, NGOs like Greenpeace or the Climate Action Network talk about “Climate-cynicism”.

For the France Attac association, this is a “Climatic and social failure”. “The government and the majority have weakened the bill and prevented the measures of the Citizen’s Climate Convention from being taken up by the deputies”, detail its members on their site.

To denounce the lack of ambition of the climate law, more than 560 organizations, including Agir pour le Climat, Alternatiba and Extinction Rebellion have therefore come together to organize this protest march.

“If Emmanuel Macron is moving forward in history, we are already building the next”, they write in their call.

“We demand, as of now, the reconversion of jobs in all polluting sectors, access to healthcare, decent housing, healthy food, clean water and clean air for all, preservation of biodiversity and natural resources ”, ask environmental organizations. They add: “Measures to change our means of production and consumption must be taken taking into account that this is only possible by reducing inequalities to build a more just society. We are deeply convinced that climate justice goes hand in hand with social justice. ”

How to make your sign?

To get your message across during an event, it is essential to carry your sign. For example, you can make it from cardboard or a sheet. In this case, do not forget to make holes, in the hollow of the letters for example, to prevent it from swelling at the first gust of wind!
