Activists and residents of the Lower East Side will hold a protest march to the municipal East Side Coastal Resilience (ESCR) project, which involves the destruction of several trees and green spaces in East River Park.
The march will cover the distance from Tompkins Square Park to the East River Park Amphitheater and will begin at noon on Sunday the 31st.

At the end of the tour there will be an event where the organizers will explain to the attendees how the ESCR project will modify the park and what these changes imply for the community that depends on East River Park for its recreation.
During the week, the organizers were practicing a choreography in the park’s own amphitheater with which they will express their link to nature that said park offers.
The Dominican dancer and choreographer, Katherine De La Cruz, is in charge of the assembly and commented on the matter: “This march is to fight against what the city is doing, against the representatives who are not defending the inhabitants of the Lower East Side. And we want to send a message to the authorities telling them that this park belongs to the people, not the politicians. This is not a private park, it belongs to us. “
