March 26, 2023: Contemporary art at mumok
The start this year is the mumok, the largest museum for modern and contemporary art in Central Europe. The collection houses major works of Classic Modernism, Pop Art, Fluxus and Viennese Actionism as well as current film and media art. The exhibitions make a mixture of tradition and experiment, past and present accessible.
Free guided tours of two exhibitions
On March 26th you can take part in free guided tours of two exhibitions. On Stage – art as a stage has been dedicated to the forms of the stage and role-playing in art since the 1960s. At that time, performative and actionist art forms were increasingly emerging, which gave the artists a stage-like presence – often in front of an assembled audience. This included the performance form of the Orgien Mysterien Theater practiced by Hermann Nitsch, as well as the performances of the Wiener Gruppe, whose literary cabaret stands in the tradition of Dadaist theatre, or the Fluxus movement with its media crossover.
