When trying to pass Sanchez, Marcelo accidentally stepped on his opponent’s calf. The stamping was so fatal that it made Sanchez’s legs bend abnormally.

Sanchez immediately lay on the field and was in pain from a broken leg. He was then stretchered off the field and unable to continue the match.

Marcelo was immediately rewarded by the referee’s red card for this violation. The former Real Madrid defender seemed to cry regretting what he had done to Sanchez.

The Argentinos Juniors vs Fluminense match was resumed and ended in a 1-1 draw. After the game, Marcelo expressed his regret for his foul on Sanchez.

“I had a very difficult moment on the pitch today. I accidentally injured a fellow footballer,” Marcelo wrote on his Twitter account.
