Another trophy in Uncle Marcelo’s museum.
Returning to the country after his long adventure at Real Madrid, Marcelo is not yet retired. The former best left-back in the world added a new title to his list, becoming Rio State champion overnight. And not just anyhow. With his Fluminense flock, Marcelo slapped Flamengo (4-1), winner of the last Libertadores. Enough to overthrow Flamengo, who had won 2-0 in the first leg.

Returning to the country at the end of February, Marcelo opened the scoring with a beautiful curling shot, after having caught a certain Gerson. The start of the Fluminense festival, which hung its 33e title in Rio. On the São Paulo side, it was the outgoing national champion, Palmeiras, who got the better of Agua Santa.
A retirement that puts everyone in agreement, for once.
