Former football player Marcelinho Carioca spoke to the Fantastic about the moments of panic experienced by him and a friend during a kidnapping in Greater São Paulo. In total, the Corinthians idol was trapped in a room for 36 hours receiving threats.

O Fantastic also had exclusive access to images showing the moment the former player was rescued from captivity (see the full report above).

Last Saturday, December 16th, Marcelinho had an appointment: the singer Thiaguinho’s show. The event was at the Corinthians stadium, in Itaquera, in the East Zone of São Paulo.

On the way home, one stop: Itaquaquecetuba. Marcelinho left tickets for his friend Taís Alcântara to go to the same show on Sunday.

The two met when he was the city’s Sports Secretary.

It was early morning, and the imported car caught our attention.

“Four people passed by, five people. When I went back to look, I was hooded, and the guy already came pointing [a arma]. And I was desperate”, says Marcelinho. “I said: ‘No, please, I’m Marcelinho Carioca’.”

According to the former player, his friend, Taís, was in the back seat of the car. “They gave me a rifle butt”, reports Marcelinho Carioca, remembering that the criminals were “nervous”.

According to the Corinthians idol, the gang asked for cards and passwords, in addition to unlocking the phone and access to the PIX. It was then that they took the former player and her friend into captivity.

“There was always that fear”, says Marcelinho, remembering the kidnappers’ threats: “‘We want money. It’s impossible not to have money in that account. The player has money'”.

The former athlete also recalls intimidation with weapons. “‘Have you ever played Russian roulette?’ And it was spinning. You heard it spinning, you didn’t see anything. Then they put a gun under the towel,” he says.

“Nobody spoke to each other. They didn’t exchange ideas, out of fear”, says Marcelinho.

Asked by reporter Maurício Ferraz if he thought he was going to die, the former player took a deep breath: “Maurício, I suffocate…”.

The criminals managed to make some withdrawals from Marcelinho’s accounts.

The imported car that led to the kidnapping was also a decoy for the police.

Shortly before 9 am on Monday (18), after more than 24 hours in captivity, Corporal Charles, from the Military Police, found the car and sent a message to the phone number listed in the documentation. On the other side, Marcelinho’s lawyer, Eduardo Pinheiro Rodriguez.

“At first, I sent a message to Marcelo. He didn’t respond. I then called Marcelo, and waited a few minutes. He ended up returning by message. Marcelo always addresses me as ‘doctor’, and he said: ‘Brother, I’m in a meeting’. There I had already suspected 100% that it wasn’t him”, says the former player’s lawyer.

O Fantastic had exclusive access to images of the rescue of Marcelinho and Taís (see the video at the top of this report).

“We started to hear the helicopter [da polícia]. Then someone arrived and said: ‘The house collapsed’. A policeman came alone. He arrived at the gate and said: ‘I’m going in. Open'”. I didn’t know what was coming. What was going to come. I said: they’re going to shoot us, they’re going to kill us. I lowered my head: Sir, don’t let me, don’t let me”, says the former player.

“He [o cabo Ribeiro, da PM] said: ‘Come. Come, you’re free'”, continues Marcelinho. “I hugged him like my father, my brother, my friend. Because he risked his life”, he says, emotional.

Her friend, Taís, also remembers the scene.

“When the police officer arrived, I was shocked to see that it was really happening, because not everyone can get out of a situation like that alive,” he says.

Now, Marcelinho Carioca will dedicate himself to the celebrations ahead. Christmas, New Year and 52nd birthday, exactly on New Year’s Eve.

Four people were arrested.

According to the police, Thauanatta dos Santos took care of the victims in captivity. Eliane de Amorim, Wadson Fernandes Santos and Jones Ferreira would have used bank accounts to receive the extortion money. The four are arrested, and the police are still looking for six other members of the gang.

Jones Ferreira’s lawyer acknowledges that he obtained bank accounts to move the money. “He, in fact, understands that there was an illicit origin, but that it was fraud”, says lawyer Anderson Caio.

He also represents Eliane. “Eliana is a friend of Jones. She simply lent him the account so he could withdraw the amounts. They did not participate in the kidnapping”, he continues.

O Fantastic he was unable to contact the defense of the other prisoners. In testimony, Wadson admits that he lent the bill, but says he didn’t know it was kidnapping money.

Thauannata said that he was not in captivity and had no role in the crime.

The group is being investigated for kidnapping, criminal association and reception.
