Exactly a week after Marcel (33) hit rusty wire on his mountain bike, he found obstacles in his path again. This time someone had cut down a tree and laid it across the road. “This must be the same perpetrator.”
A week after he opened his nose at the iron wire that was stretched across the road, Marcel de Kok is back on his mountain bike, in the woods near Ossendrecht. “I’m actually checking here every day after work,” he says. “Whether I can still find iron wire somewhere. Whether there is still something hanging somewhere.”
–
He couldn’t find any iron wire, but Monday evening there was a tree trunk across the road. exactly where he found the wire last week. “Someone cut down a tree especially for this,” he notes. “And a big one too. This was a good birch tree, six meters tall I think.”
–
He managed to get the tree trunk off the road again, but the amazement at the action still echoes in his voice. “I don’t understand this,” he says. “I’ve seen while cycling that there was a tree over the road. Some branches or a tree had fallen over and someone had pulled it over the road. But I’ve never seen a fresh tree cut down for it. “
–
Marcel noticed the tree trunk in time on Monday evening. No additional injury for him. And his face is already recovering some of the iron wire he encountered last week. “I actually have the most pain from the anesthetic syringe,” he laughs. “But you’ll keep seeing that wound in my face. It was a big opening.”
–
Marcel hopes to meet the perpetrator of wire and tree trunk one day. “I’m just curious who does something like that.”
