The 39th Laurenzi Tennis Cup on the grounds of TC Marktheidenfeld has a new winner in Marcel Strickroth from TC RB Regensburg. He won against Yannik Nittmann from Troisdorf 6:3, 6:2. The tournament was played to the end despite the adverse weather. The tournament management and the organization team led by Eve Becker did a great job to make this happen. “We were already prepared, because the weather forecast didn’t say anything good,” said Eve Becker.

With 19 participants from the top 700 in the German ranking list, good games were expected – and that’s how it was in the end. The complete first round was completed from Friday afternoon. And since the rain stopped in the early afternoon, the schedule was kept to some extent. The weather gods were kind to the organizers on Saturday. However, the final had to take place indoors on Sunday.

The later winner Marcel Strickroth was placed first and played his way through the tournament confidently. In the first match he gave Anton Beyes from TC WB Würzburg no chance at 6:0, 6:1 and was also successful in the next round against Alex Solanki (SC Uttenreuth). This clearly won against Philipp Kunkel (DRC Ingolstadt) from Habichsthal.

11:9 in the deciding set

In the quarterfinals, Strickroth met Ben Ostheimer, number seven on the seed list, from TV Aschaffenburg. The young player first had to do everything in an incredibly exciting match against Michael Rebele from TC Hochspessart to gain the upper hand at 3:6, 6:3, 11:9. Then Tim Hofmann (CaM Nuremberg) waited for Ostheimer. Here the Aschaffenburger won 6:3, 6:3. Ostheimer then met favorite Strickroth and lost the semi-final game 4-6, 2-6.

Strickroth and Lukas Schneider (TC WB Würzburg, number 5) met in the semifinals. With 6:1, 6:4 the favorite played into the final and met Yannic Nittmann (number 3) from TC RW Troisdorf. After a big fight, Nittmann won 6:4, 6:4 against number two on the seed list, Joel Link from THC Hanau.

The young Nittmann gave everything in the final, but Strickroth played very cleverly and routinely – and won 6:3, 6:2.
