Marcel Koller speaks out after Al-Ahly’s qualification for African Champions League final

Swiss coach Marcel Kohler, coach of Al-Ahly club, made strong statements after his team qualified for the African Champions League final at the expense of Tunisian Esperance.

Al-Ahly defeated Esperance with a goal without a response, after winning the first leg in Tunisia by three without a response, to qualify for the final match, waiting for the South African Sundowns or Moroccan Wydad.

Kohler commented on the saying that Al-Ahly was lucky, saying: “The loss of Athar Al-Taher’s penalty kick is not what qualified us.

Regarding the lack of time between the second leg of the CAF Champions League final, and the confrontation between Egypt and Guinea in the qualifiers for the 2023 African Cup of Nations, Koller said: “Are you asking us to leave our players in the African final for the national team? The national team has to coexist in these circumstances.”

And whether he prefers Wydad or Sundowns, he said: “We do not know who will reach the final, and whoever the competitor is, we will prepare for him with analysis and training.”
